You'll Never Know Until You Go

January 23, 2017

4 months. 14 different countries. 25 cities. Now, I am finally home.

I don’t even know where to begin? Marcel Proust once said, “Discovery consists not in seeking new lands but in seeing with new eyes.” A quote I was able to experience in the rawest form while traveling throughout the world. Four months ago before I started my voyage I feared change. I took a huge leap of faith this last semester & hopped on a ship to travel the world.. not knowing one single person. Five months later I am finally back home in Texas and all I have been doing is craving change... One could only imagine what life would be like after traveling constantly for 104 days and then BOOM. Back to REALITY. It hasn’t been the easiest adjustment but I am thankful to finally be home.  Isolation and change were two factors that I experienced abundantly these last four months. Each weekend consists of a completely different country with a completely different culture. Needless to say change was something I had to become in favor of ..and FAST. Isolation was another aspect I became very aware of while traveling at sea. Imagine a life with no internet, no cell service, and no land. It was eye opening to see how much our generation solely relies on technology. However, before I knew it I became in love with the challenge of isolation. There was something so bittersweet about unplugging for a couple days and being in the middle of the ocean with people who slowly become your soulmates. If there is one tip of advice I could give to everyone after all of my experiences with Semester at Sea it would be to CHALLENGE YOURSELF, live life outside of your comfort zone. Without challenging myself I never would have met the people that I did nor experience the things that I was able to experience. The memories I made are memories I will forever remember. To those special people who made these past four months the best four months of my life, you know who you are and THANK YOU. You guys were the biggest blessings in my life and you guys taught me so much about myself and about the world. Traveling with you people was truly unforgettable. Mom and Dad, thank you for always supporting me in everything I do, you guys constantly believe in me and thank you for always being willing to hear and understand my dreams, this whole trip could not have been possible without you guys. And Lastly, Semester at Sea, thank you for being one of the biggest answers to prayers, you changed my life and opened my eyes to see the world from a completely different perspective. For now, the next adventure awaits, so stay tuned.. Pictured below are some of the highlights of my trip, hope you guys enjoy looking throughout our adventure!!
